Hey guys and welcome to the blog for RXforWellnessDC! I’m Amelia, and I started this blog as a way to encourage people, especially those with chronic health conditions, to lead a happier, healthier, more satisfying life. I would like people to see that despite living with diseases that require lifestyle change, it is possible to do so in a sustainable and rewarding way. Living with diabetes, heart disease, autoimmune disorders, or any other chronic condition does not have to be a burden for life.
I’m a Pharmacist by trade (PharmD) and my day job has me behind the counter at your local Wal-Mart making sure that you are getting the safest and most effective medications. I am also working towards my Board Certification in Diabetes Education (CDE), which will allow me to take on clients with specific diabetic needs. In my free time, I enjoy running, hanging out in the kitchen, being outdoors, and working with the local American Diabetes Association chapter. On this blog, you’ll find a mix of healthy and simple recipes, health and fitness tips, and a professional's view on the latest recommendations made for those with chronic health disorders.
This blog is an outlet for my private consulting services, RXforWellnessDC. As a Pharmacist, I am trained to offer medication therapy management services and preventative lifestyle coaching. Essentially, people who are overwhelmed by their conditions (or precondition) can benefit from having a professional assess their medications, determine appropriateness and safety, and manage day to day life. In addition, as a personal interest and through others in the RXforWellnessDC community (ie. personal trainer, nutrition consultants, etc.), we are able to provide comprehensive, individualized plans for living with chronic disease and maintaining a sustainable lifestyle change. I work with clients locally (Washington DC Metro Area/Northern Virginia/Maryland) and through virtual consultations. Email me today at firstname.lastname@example.org to get started and learn more about our services!
Even though this blog is a general health/lifestyle blog, you will see A LOT of healthy recipes developed by me. As someone who has battled weight issues my entire life, I have always taken it upon myself to make sure that the food I eat is nourishing me, not owning me. I have had a long time interest in cooking, fitness, and promoting general wellness. WARNING: I am not a master chef. My goal in the kitchen is to provide quick, healthy options for even the busiest of people, professionals, busy moms and dads, and even frugal college/graduate students included.
